Photos from March 25, 2015, GYOTAKU

That ah-ha moment! Look at the happy faces. Rubbing a fish, especially for the very first time, produces anxiety. Not to worry. I have never let anyone leave without a good print. Ten accomplished gyotaku artists!

Get a minimum of eight friends who want to do this and I'll come to your location in SouthShore, Florida. $35 covers fish and all supplies. You bring nothing but a clothespin for your nose. LOL

Email me with your preferred date and time (2 1/2 hours) and I'll get back to you: grace.mckee@live.com.

What is gyotaku and direct method?

Gyotaku is fish rubbing.
Direct method means that paint or ink is applied to the fish and then the muslin is placed over the fish and rubbed to make a fish print. The eye is painted in afterwards.

The gyotaku can then be framed or sewn onto a pillow, a beach bag, or whatever.
