Do you have photos of a favorite place or a favorite pet or person you would like to commemorate on your walls, but you feel you cannot actually paint them? Then, this project is definitely for you.
1. Collect a few photos of the person, place, or thing you love. Make grayscale or black and white copies in various sizes.
2. Also gather a few small items that support your theme: ticket stubs, a travel pamphlet, whatever.
3. Sign up for the art event by the deadline. (This is so important because supplies need to be purchased ahead of time.)
You will be attaching the COPIES to your board so you will still have the photos. You will add color by glazing over the copies and adding opaque paint in certain areas. You will complete your composition by adding small items, different gels and specialty papers, markers, watercolor pencils, et cetera.
Here is my latest work:
No, I did not paint the bridge or fountain or even the big palm tree. I took photos and printed grayscale (black and white) copies in various sizes.
Once I cut out the parts I wished to use, I moved them around on the board to plan my composition. Once satisfied, I attached them to my canvas board using matte gel medium.
Does the sky look iridescent? I used a few scraps of iridescent paper. Do the clouds look like cotton puffs? One actually is. Does the fountain look like stone? I spread some light molding paste on it. Does the water look like it is dripping from the fountain? Actually it is clear tar gel dripping there.
What fun to get together with other creative people and enjoy making memories--on the board and off.
Thanks for looking,
Grace
