Watercolor Step-by-Step

This page is here mainly for my present watercolor class to use as a reference. However, all visitors are welcome.

If you are interested in taking watercolor lessons, email me at grace.mckee@live.com.

WC 1 - Lightly sketch. Be sure not to dig in with a sharp pencil.

WC 2 - Save some white using Art Masking Fluid. IMMEDIATELY THOROUGHLY WASH THE ART MASKING FLUID FROM THE BRUSH!!!

WC 3 - Dry using a hair dryer.

WC 4 - Wash in the shadows.

WC 5 - Wash in the background and texture it using plastic food wrap.

WC 6 - Back to the hair dryer.

WC 7 - Wash in the foliage and do a little "lost and found." Back to the hair dryer.

WC 8 - Once everything is VERY DRY, roll off the Art Masking Fluid.

WC 9 - Paint in the blossoms and fill the vase.

WC 10 - The most difficult step:  WALK AWAY!!!

FINAL STEP:  Once everything is thoroughly dry and you have "new eyes," return and add the final touches. Who said, "The final 5% either makes or breaks the painting." They were so right!
