Watercolor Step-by-Step

This page is here mainly for my present watercolor class to use as a reference. However, all visitors are welcome.

If you are interested in taking watercolor lessons, email me at grace.mckee@live.com.

WC 1 - Lightly sketch. Be sure not to dig in with a sharp pencil.

WC 2 - Save some white using Art Masking Fluid. IMMEDIATELY THOROUGHLY WASH THE ART MASKING FLUID FROM THE BRUSH!!!

WC 3 - Dry using a hair dryer.

WC 4 - Wash in the shadows.

WC 5 - Wash in the background and texture it using plastic food wrap.

WC 6 - Back to the hair dryer.

WC 7 - Wash in the foliage and do a little "lost and found." Back to the hair dryer.

WC 8 - Once everything is VERY DRY, roll off the Art Masking Fluid.

WC 9 - Paint in the blossoms and fill the vase.

WC 10 - The most difficult step:  WALK AWAY!!!

FINAL STEP:  Once everything is thoroughly dry and you have "new eyes," return and add the final touches. Who said, "The final 5% either makes or breaks the painting." They were so right!

Intermediate Acrylics

I love my acrylics students. They just get better and better. Proud teacher.

If you have a couple of friends who would like to learn more about painting with acrylics, give me a call. I can arrange a time for you. At $10/hour each, you can receive instruction from an experienced teacher in a supportive and encouraging environment.

They wanted you to know that they have been studying with me for about 10 - 12 sessions (2 1/2 hours per session) or about 25 - 30 hours total. Fantastic progress, don't you agree?

Graphite Portrait from Your Photo

These are examples of graphite portraits I have drawn from photos.

You send by email or deliver to me a photo of yourself. I draw in graphite on Bristol board. (No photos by professional photographers, please, unless you have purchased rights to them.)

One person or animal - $125
2 heads - $175
3 heads - $225

Self Portraits by Students

DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN is a five-session (2 1/2 hours each) class using the DRSB workbook by Dr. Betty Edwards, whose research says, "If you can hold a pencil and sign your name, you can draw."

Class participants are assisted in understanding and completing selected activities together. They complete other assignments and bring them back to class. During the fifth session, participants draw their own self portraits. They are proud of their accomplishments as am I.

I will keep adding photos. Check back if you do not find yourself here yet.

REMEMBERING HOW TO WATERCOLOR

My first watercolor in YEARS!

I am excited to have a group of ladies who requested a watercolor class. I studied with Jo Tarabula,AWS, for several years many years ago. Since I have focused on acrylics the last few years, I am reviewing what I studied, and, happily, it is all coming back.

Watercolor requires s lot of control and restraint which I have in limited quantities. But rewarding that it is all coming back to me.

Get ready, ladies. This is going to be FUN!
